The priority of blast design is to ensure the life safety of occupants and protection of critical assets, and therefore high levels of structural damage may be acceptable. Except for high-threat scenarios associated with military and diplomatic facilities, a blast event is typically considered to be very unlikely but potentially catastrophic. Compared to the typical forces usually included in building design, such as wind and seismic, there are many unique considerations involved in blast design.
